Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is a fluid ounce the same as a regular ounce?

No, and this is a very common baking mistake! A fluid ounce (fl oz) is a measurement of volume (how much space something takes up), used for liquids like milk or water. A standard ounce (oz) is a measurement of weight (how heavy something is), used for dry ingredients like flour or sugar.

How many tablespoons are in a half cup?

There are exactly 8 tablespoons in a half cup. Since one full cup equals 16 tablespoons, you simply divide that number in half.

Does this work for dry ingredients?

This converter measures volume. It works perfectly for liquids, and it also accurately converts volume measurements for dry ingredients (e.g., converting 1 cup of flour into tablespoons). However, it cannot convert a volume measurement (cups) into a weight measurement (grams) because different ingredients have different densities (a cup of sugar is much heavier than a cup of flour).
